Located at the west end of the Valley View Casino Center, formerly the San Diego Sports Arena, Kobey’s Swap Meet gathers over 1,000 vendors every week to offer used clothing, jewelry, electronics, hardware, appliances, furniture, collectibles, crafts, antiques, auto accessories, toys, and books. Established since 1976 by Monte Kobey, the swap meet concept reportedly dates back to medieval times, when merchants hawked their wares in tents and horse-drawn carts. Today’s swap meet houses offer not only used items but new wares, antiques and collectibles too. As San Diego’s biggest outdoor market, the swap meet is open from Friday to Sunday. Admission at the market is 50¢ on Friday and $1 on weekends, while children under 11 are admitted free of charge. The amenities for guests include free parking and food stalls.
